Amulet Studios is a production company focused on the client’s objective from the idea to the target audience.
Amulet Studios grew out of a desire to produce our own scripts with control over all aspects of its production. It was a means to ensure that original ideas were preserved in the often arduous production process. Amulet Studios was the first 4k, boutique studio with the in-house capacity to take a project from idea to delivery for broadcast, cinema and web distribution. Our edifice was built on a belief in ideas. This is what informs our process whether we are making a drama, documentary, corporate or commercial.
Director: Billy McCannon
Billy McCannon is a writer/director, originally from Galway. His first short film “That’s All Right” premiered on the open night Cork Film Festival in 1988 was followed by a Little Bird Production, “There’s A Hole In The Ozone Layer Just Above Clonboo”, in 1990. Both films were broadcast internationally and in Ireland, where they also received cinema distribution.
He is a founding member of Film Base and Chaired the organisation when we were active in successfully lobbying for the formation of the three IFB, SIPTU’s Action Committee and Film Bases professional training programmes for writers, producers and directors. There were three key pillars of the platform on which independent production flourished. His short film, “One More Shot” (produced by Amulet Films), was one of the films selected for the first series of IFB, Short Cuts.

From 2000 to 2009, He has worked on an innovative, video art project in Portlaoise Prison for Dept. Of Justice, under the auspicious of Prf. Brian Maguire at the National College Of Art And Design. He build a digital video studio on the prison landing and worked with republican prisoners using video – documentary and drama to explore their relationship with political violence. Inspired by that research he wrote and directed the award-winning “Recoil” (produced Jonathan Cummins) and a large-scale video installation “Walls Behind Walls”. The Portloise research informed a number of my other film works produced by Amulet Studios.
